Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Determine job requirements
   • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
3. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
4. Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
5. Assess fuel system operation
   • Apply knowledge of fuel injection principles and component part functions/operation to assess fuel system operation
6. Start, operate and shut down diesel plant/equipment
7. Undertake checks safely to prescribed procedures
8. Determine and record flows, pressures and speeds
9. Interpret engine and plant operating characteristics and parameters
10. Interpret test results and operational data for faults and serviceability
11. Repair compression ignition system
    • Identify components to be repaired or replaced
12. Select appropriate tools, equipment and materials
13. Repair and replace components according to manufacturer specifications, WHS and environmental requirements
14. Time the high-pressure fuel pump or injectors to engine
15. Use test equipment to test ignition system and set to specifications
16. Record repair according to workplace procedures

Final adjustment includes the setting ofone (1) or more of the following:	low/high speed no load/full load speed droop sensitivity stability promptness
